A friend of mine shared this wonderful meme, and it led me to wonder why we love wine so much. I did a little Googling and found some amazing answers.

Awakening Your Senses
Wine wakes up your senses! The smell. The taste. The feel. Even the sound of your wine glasses clinking. A truly well-rounded drinking experience. You can almost think of it like eating an entire meal. Can you get the same experience from other alcohols? Perhaps, but I don’t think quite as noticeably.
Lots of Flexibility
Wine can be used in a number of different ways, and with a number of different types of meals. You can even put wine in the food you’re cooking.
Many Different Tastes
What are you in the mood for? A smooth or a tart white? A sweet or a dry Rosé? A big, bad red or a nuanced, more complex red? The sky is the limit with wine, which makes it such a fun libation.
Wine Makes Food Taste Better – and Vice Versa
A perfect pairing will result in both the wine and the food tasting better. What an amazing experience!
Wine Gives You a Geography Lesson
According to Early to Rise, “unlike any other beverage, wine tends to ‘soak up’ the earth. In other words, what you drink reflects the environment, the climate, and the geography of the land from which the grapes are harvested. Experts can taste a wine and accurately visualize and describe exactly where it comes from. That’s what the French call “terroir” [ter-wahr]. It’s become a buzzword, but it simply is the characteristic taste and flavor imparted to a wine by the environment from which it came.”
Its Complexity Can Be a Lot of Fun
Wine Folly says “this balance of fruitiness, acidity, bitterness, and body…makes wine…a subtle-yet-captivating beverage.” Combining all these different elements makes wine tasting not only a fun activity but perhaps even an intellectual activity. Okay, that might be a bit too much. But it definitely gets you thinking.
I hope I did a good job of capturing why we love wine so much. If you have other thoughts, I would love to hear them.
Cheers!
