Welcome to Betty’s Wine Musings, a new blog celebrating the wine country lifestyle and everything fun about wine.
About the Blog
What can you expect to read here? I will cover all kinds of topics, from wine and food pairings, to wine tasting basics to geographic nuances to interesting statistics and weird wine factoids. And, of course, I will cover my enjoyment of working in the wine industry.
About Me
Let me start by telling you a little about me. I’m a wine lover and a consummate wine student. My love of wine started when I was a student at Berkeley. Back then, wineries didn’t check IDs the way they do now. So it was a big treat to head up to the wine country and be treated as an adult. That probably was my favorite part of wine tasting early on.
Over time, I grew to really appreciate wine and the wine country lifestyle – the laughter, the clinking of glasses, the good food, the friends, the deliberate pace.
My wine career started in 2006, after nearly 20 years in high-tech marketing, when I became an independent wine consultant with WineShop At Home (www.winetastingsandmore.com). Quite a wonderful career change for me! It was such a pleasure to get to work with a product I was truly passionate about.
One of my favorite things about wine is that you always get to be a student. Whether you know a lot or a little about wine, there’s always more to learn.
I love helping people have more fun with wine, by leading “edutaining,” unintimidating wine tastings at their homes and offices. Through WineShopAtHome, I introduce my guests to great wines, offer some “Wine 101” and discuss wine and food pairings. Laughter is key, and there’s always plenty of that. Guests have the opportunity to order the wines they like. It’s a great try-before-you-buy experience that takes the mystery out of wine buying.
Celebrating the Wine Country Lifestyle Together
I see this blog as an extension of my living room, or yours, or your office, and I invite you to join me in this wine adventure. Please comment on my articles, subscribe to my posts, and let me know what topics you would like me to cover. I look forward to many lively conversations with you here about wine. Whether you’re a wine aficionado, or just getting started enjoying the fruit of the vine, welcome!
So cheers to you, my readers and “guests,” and cheers to exploring the wine country lifestyle together. I’d also love to know more about you. What do you love most about wine, and what would you like to read about on this blog? Post your comments here!

Congratulations on your new blog, Betty! Wine tasting is one of my most favorite hobbies (if I dare call it that)! I love that wine can be a focal point for family, friends, business associates, etc. to socialize. What doesn’t go with wine is what I’d like to know? :0) I look forward to more educational [and fun–knowing your personality] posts from you!
Cheers,
Dawn

Thanks so much Dawn! I haven’t quite figured out what doesn’t go with wine. We might need to do a little research on that 🙂
You got it, Betty! :0)
🙂
Love your new blog, Betty. If anyone is new to this blog and to Betty, I want to give your wine parties a BIG SHOUT OUT. Betty’s home wine parties are a blast. You get to taste their wonderful wines as Betty takes you through a very fun, but educational presentation about wine.
Betty makes WINE accesible to everyone. Betty does not believe in wine snobbery and she teaches you and your friends how to sample, sip and take in all of the lovely elements of the wine she is showing the night of your party.
Her parties are so much fun. You just invite your friends over and the cost is SUPER affordable. I forget exactlyhow much it is, but it’s less then $75. It’s a great value and a super fun evening with your best friends.
I look forward to more of your blogs about the Wine Shop at Home wines. I get 2 bottles of wine delivered to my house every month and I always look forward to my Wine delivery!
Thanks Chrystal!
This is great, Betty! I will enjoy reading your posts, and am going to share with my Mom and sister, Louise, who I know will enjoy this, too.
Thanks Donna! I really appreciate your sharing this.
