What Wines Pair Best with a New Job?

I started a new day job this week! Woo hoo! I’m thrilled by this new opportunity. But now my big question is what wines pair best with a new job. It’s time to get creative with this topic.

How Does a New Job Make You Feel?

Excited and anxious. Those are the two feelings that come up for me. Thankfully, for my new job, I’m much more excited than I am anxious. So, what wines would pair well with those feelings?

Excited Wines

For excited, I immediately think of Sparkling Wine. It’s festive. It’s fun. And it’s sparkly.

Besides Sparkling Wine, I think of acidic white wines. Their brightness offers a nice level of excitement.

On the red side, it would have to be a knock-your-socks-off phenomenal wine. It’s hard not to get excited about that.

Anxious Wines

I do not want a wine that makes me anxious. No thank you. Here, I think the important thing is to look for wines that reduce anxiety, that calm you down, that don’t have a lot of zip to them.

For anxiety-reducing wines, I can’t think of a lot of white wines that would work for me. If you’re a Chardonnay fan, that could be a good one. Sadly, I’m not a huge fan. I drink a lot of acidic whites, and those wouldn’t calm me down.

So I’ll lean towards red wines. It’s interesting that I strongly associate red wine with calmness, perhaps, because it’s not cold. So, it doesn’t shock your system.

According to Metro UK,  the “plant compound resveratrol, found in red wine, helps relieve stress in the brain.” Okay, that’s pretty cool.

I’m also thinking some dessert wines would do the trick here. Like maybe a really yummy Port or a Sauternes, two of my favorites.

Here is how I’m going to celebrate my first week of work:

• WineShop At Home Cadeau Semi Seco Sparkling Wine – The bubbles alone are cause for celebration.
• WineShop At Home Monarch Petite Sirah – This wine is deep, mature and smooth and will make me feel warm and fuzzy all over.
• WineShop At Home Cookie Cellars Macaron – This port-style dessert wine has, rich color and aromas of prune, blackberry and cherry. Yum!
