Coravin is a system that enables you to get glasses of wine out of bottles without ever needing to open the bottles. I thought it would be fun to explore the ins and outs of Coravin. I’m also hoping that this article will inspire you to share your Coravin experiences with me!
According to Coravin, they are “changing the way the world drinks wine. Coravin, Inc. is a privately held company located in Burlington, Massachusetts focused on transforming the way wine is served, sold and enjoyed. Coravin designs and markets the Coravin System for wine enthusiasts, restaurants, wine stores and wineries. Unparalleled in craftsmanship and design, Coravin uses proprietary patented technology to access and pour wine from a bottle without pulling the cork. Wine enthusiasts can now enjoy wine sealed with corks without feeling the need to commit to the whole bottle, allowing them to explore wines of any vintage, varietal or region, one taste at a time.”
Pretty cool. And their taglines are even cooler: 1) Stop opening. Start tasting. 2) Wine without compromise – Enjoy what you want, when you want, without worrying about finishing a bottle. 3) Savor a new moment each day – Enjoy quiet moments without needing to open an entire bottle. 4) The perfect pour for any dish – Bring out the flavor of your food, without ever opening the bottle.
I think this is a great solution for restaurants that want to expand their wine-by-the-glass offerings and wine bars and wineries that want to expand their wine tasting offerings. But I have a hard time seeing individuals using it. Perhaps I’m wrong. I’m hoping you can shed some light by answering these questions. When you respond, please let us know if you are using Coravin for yourself or for your business.
- Have you used Coravin?
- Do you like it?
- Is it easy to use?
- Do you use it regularly?
- How long does a needle last?
- How long does a capsule last?
- If you don’t use a capsule, does the bottle age as if it had actually been opened?
- Can you use the same needle on 10 glasses of wine in a single evening?
- Are there any problems with using Coravin?
I would greatly appreciate your sharing your Coravin experiences and/or thoughts here!
Cheers!

Have you used Coravin? YES I HAVE ONE AND USE IT FOR BOTH BUSINESS AND PERSONALLY.
Do you like it? YES I DO LIKE IT AND WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS THAT HAVE LARGE WINE CELLARS AND OLDER VINTAGES OF WINE
Is it easy to use?
Do you use it regularly? YES, MORE FOR BUSINESS THAN PERSONALLY. AS A WINE DISTRIBUTOR IT CERTAINLY HELPS ME REDUCE SAMPLE WASTE.
How long does a needle last? I DON’T KNOW FOR SURE BUT HAVE USED THE ONE I HAVE ALOT WITH NO ISSUES
How long does a capsule last? I FIND IT LAST ABOUT 18 – 20 TASTINGS
If you don’t use a capsule, does the bottle age as if it had actually been opened? I CAN’T ANSWER THIS QUESTION, JUST DON’T KNOW THE ANSWER
Can you use the same needle on 10 glasses of wine in a single evening? YES DEPENDING ON THE SIZE OF THE POUR.
Are there any problems with using Coravin? NONE WHAT SO EVER. BUT I HAVE HEARD OF OTHERS THAT HAVE. I LIKE MINE ALOT.
Carl, thank you so much. I really appreciate your feedback. I have a friend who has one at home, but he doesn’t use it very much. I continue to believe that this is much more useful professionally. Of course, if you have one at home, it can be fun.
