Sizzling Summer Wines

I hope you’re enjoying the start of summer, and I hope you’re finding the time to enjoy some nice summer wines. WineShop At Home, the Napa winery I’m affiliated with, has a lot of great summer wines. So I decided to devote this article to our summer sippers, porch pounders and picnic pick-me-uppers.

Homage Cellars 2012 California Lot Number 22 ($20) – One of my personal favorites, this is a blend of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Muscat and Viognier. It is delicious! You’re likely to smell and taste lemon and grapefruit, flowers and minerality. Enjoy Homage Lot 22 with baked fish, pasta with white sauce, roasted vegetables, chicken or turkey. Mild cheeses such as Monterey Jack, Swiss or Pepper Jack will also pair well with this wine.

Revel 2013 California Vin Rouge ($18) – This delicious Rosé could easily pass for a vibrant, tangy punch. Be on the lookout for lemon, pear, grape jelly and raspberry sorbet. It’s meant for pure enjoyment for casual summer moments. This wine will be great with salty snacks, charcuterie, cold chicken and prawns. Creamy cheeses such as Camembert, Brie or Blue will also pair well.

Homage Cellars 2011 California Lot Number 55 ($25) – This is a beautiful blend of Merlot and Syrah. Be on the lookout for black currant, raspberry and pomegranate. Yum! The exuberance of the Syrah shines from the very beginning. Behind these fresh fruits, some meaty notes emerge with some woody cassis buds aromas in the finish. This is a red wine with a big mouthfeel, a medium intensity body and some toasty aromas in the finish. It is the ideal wine for anything on the barbecue. Soft to semi-soft cheeses like Brie, Goat, Camembert or Munster will also pair well.
