Cardiovascular Business tells us that Champagne could be good for the heart. Woo hoo. Let’s explore further.

Is Champagne good for the heart?
From the Cardiovascular Business Article
According to the article, “Drinking champagne may be associated with significant cardiovascular benefits, according to a new study published in the Canadian Journal of Cardiology. The study identified dozens of lifestyle changes that may help lower a person’s risk of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). Some of the changes—eating more fruit, losing weight—were straightforward, but a few of the research team’s findings were unexpected. Drinking champagne and/or white wine, for example, was linked to a reduced SCA risk.”
The findings come from a new exposome-wide association study (EWAS) out of China. The study focused on data from more than 500,000 patients.
From Another Article
The Guardian goes further, quoting one of the co-investigators Renjie Chen of Fudan University in Shanghai: “To our knowledge, this is the first study that comprehensively investigated the associations between non-clinical modifiable risk factors [higher consumption of champagne and white wine, increased fruit intake, along with maintaining a positive mood, weight management, blood pressure control and improved education] and SCA incidence. We were surprised by the large proportion (40%-63%) of SCA cases that could be prevented by improving unfavourable profiles.”
The article said that “Eliminating the worst third of the 56 risk factors suggested 40% of SCA cases could be prevented, according to the study. This increased to 63% SCA prevention if the worst two-thirds of the risk factors were eliminated.”
Woo hoo. It’s time to break out some bubbles!!!
