I kicked off my Napa series with an article last week about my visit to Yao Family Wines. This week the focus is on Kieu Hoang Winery in the Carneros AVA. A key reason we visited Kieu Hoang Winery is their generous donation last year of $5 million to the San Jose floods.
About Kieu Hoang Winery
According to their website, “Mr. Kieu Hoang is an American entrepreneur and philanthropist, originally from Vietnam. He is the CEO of RAAS, Inc (USA) and Vice Chairman of Shanghai RAAS Blood Products, China. Since 2010 Mr. Kieu Hoang has focused his research in areas of wellness that improve the quality of life… Studying Red wine in particular caught his attention. In his research he found that good healthy cells did not just exist in human plasma but also in red wine; he found that a small grape has 5,000 more genes than a human being.” Hoang’s passion for wellness led him to Napa, where he started his winery in 2014.

The Tasting Experience
Both the outside and the inside of the winery have beautiful wine bottle displays. Besides the wonderful displays, on the inside, there are gorgeous scenic posters, each featuring a Kieu Hoang bottle.
The tasting room is nice and airy, and the staff is delightful. We were lucky enough to be served by Joey Faustino-Alves, the Tasting Room Manager. He did a great job of serving up both of their tasting menus.
Kieu Hoang Wines
I liked all of the wines I tried and ended up buying my two favorites, the 2012 Syrah and the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon. While both wines are drinking beautifully now, I think the Cabernet will benefit from being put down for at least a few years. I will do my best to save it for 5 years. Hopefully I’ll have the discipline 🙂
If you haven’t visited Kieu Hoang Winery, please do so, both because you’ll love the wine and because their generosity is worthy of being honored.
Cheers!
