Betty's Wine Musings

Given that we aren’t in a very happy place right now, I thought it might be fun to do some Googling to see what I could find about April Fools and wine. I hope you enjoy this article.

Wine Folly Introduces Us to Wine Coffee

In 2017, in honor of April Fools, Wine Folly highlighted an April Fools and wine story that is actually true. In their article entitled “Wine Coffee? This Isn’t Even an April Fools’ Joke,” they quoted Robert Mondavi from 1991 who said that he has “about 8 ounces of coffee, an ounce and a half of wine, and sugar to taste. When I was growing up, my mother would give me a little coffee with a little red wine in it. I grew accustomed to it.” Anybody want to try that?

Food&Wine Announces Cabernet Air Jordans

In their article “April Fools’ Day 2019: All the Food Pranks We’ve Seen So Far,” Food&Wine tells us that “Jordan Vineyard & Winery and Kickasso Kustoms have created the perfect shoe for oenophiles—Air Jordan XV Retro Cabernet Sauvignon Limited Editions, a.k.a. wine sneakers. This is half a prank: some of the shoe’s wackier features, like the insoles marinated in coq au vin (so your shoes always smell like a fine French restaurant) and smart soles that search wine reviews when you press your heel down “like a grape stomper” are fake. But the shoes themselves, and the 2015 Jordan Cabernet vintage wine they’re based on, are real. The sneakers are commemorating the wine’s release on May 1, as the winery’s first vintage in its five-decade history aged entirely in French oak, according to a statement. So a few select people (fans of Jordan wine) will actually get a version of these shoes, like Cam Jordan of the New Orleans Saints and LeBron James—“because serious wine drinkers need serious arch support.” Their video is hilarious.

MSN’s Contribution

In MSN’s “31 Fun Gag Gifts for April Fools’ Day,” they include a giant glass of wine for the person who limits themselves to one glass a day.

WineTable Offers Great April Fools and Wines Jokes

WineTable offers several great April Fools and wine jokes in their 2013 “April Fool’s Day Wine Jokes” article. Here’s my favorite.

A Midnight Pullover

The policeman signals to a car driver to pull over to the side of the road, due to the fact that he appears to be driving erratically. He says to the driver, “You appear to have been drinking!”

The driver answers, “No sir, I am just tired.”

The policeman looks into the car and notices that the driver is a priest! He also notices that there is an empty bottle on the floor. He says to the driver, “What is, or should I say was in this bottle?

The driver answers, “Water!”

The policeman says, “It is not, it’s wine!”

The driver looks up to the heavens and says, “Oh Lord, you have done it again!”

If you have played any good tricks around April Fools and wine, please share them with us here. Thanks.

Cheers!
